Google has finally released a version of the service Gmail for Wear OS. The company teased the feature back in May at I/O, but it wasn’t clear when it would actually launch. At the same time, it was an eagerly awaited option for Wear OS users, as until now Google has not offered a direct way to access Gmail with its smartwatch, except for notifications. Given that Gmail is one of the company’s core services, it’s puzzling why it took so long to roll out.

The application offers an option restore inbox, browsing emailsand even switching between multiple accounts on the go. You can too adjust overall settings, to get new email notifications on your watch face throughout the day. The application works with the operating system Wear OS 3 from 2021 and the system just released Wear OS 4, so those with slightly older smartwatches are unfortunately out of luck. The Gmail app for Wear OS is out now available through the Google Play Store.

As part of I/O, Google also announced that it is going to Wear OS Calendar application, however, it has not yet arrived in the watch. Calendar for Wear OS is expected to enable users check schedules, send invitations, update tasks and to-do lists, and more. In addition, the integration of Wear OS with Google’s smart home ecosystem will soon be improved, allowing you to control the Nest smart doorbell right from your wrist.

However, while Wear OS 3 and Wear OS 4 are still getting new features, the company’s older smartwatch operating systems lose features. Google recently announced that its own voice assistant will no longer work on Wear OS 3 watches.
