The first electric car from Suzuki will head into the highly competitive environment of small SUVs. It wants to stand out with driving characteristics that make full use of its taller build.

While some brands managed to build an entire family of electric cars, Suzuki does not yet have such a model. True, most of the portfolio is more or less electrified, and the Across is offered as a plug-in hybrid, which is not enough these days. But don’t worry, even battery car lovers will soon find their way. The automaker brought its first electric car to the Tokyo Motor Show, and according to preliminary information, it will be quite capable.

The new generation Citroën C3 Aircross will be a small seven-seater SUV. The electric car gets priority

Behind the not very imaginative name eVX is a study of a locally emission-free SUV, which is supposed to be a physical skill in its segment. Due to the partnership with Toyota, we assume the use of the base from the bZ3X model and therefore all-wheel drive. This corresponds to the inclusion among small SUVs such as Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro or Peugeot 2008.

In terms of design, the eVX is an evolution of the vision of the same name presented at the January motor show in India. The novelty has a redesigned front in the area of lights and mask. Otherwise, it is generally smoother and, with some exaggeration, closer to the serial form.

Intimate marketing according to Suzuki: The aged Vitara brought more than 20 people together

But the same cannot be said about the interior, which still has a very futuristic appearance. It is led by a wide display uniting a digital instrument panel and a multimedia device. All control elements have the tactile form of embedded icons in the decor. The center console with the drive mode selector is similarly smooth. Its completely glossy surface is really only usable for the concept. A square steering wheel with a bent top edge probably won’t see serial production either. Likewise, we’ll see if the narrow rear-view mirrors survive.

Suzuki did not provide details on powertrains or market entry dates. Estimates say 2025, but who knows?
