Saturday 25 June at 2 pm, Natuurpunt Ninove and the Kerkraad van Pollare organized a baby shower for the 2 owlets of the local barn owl couple. This at the church of Pollare.
Natuurpunt and the Barn Owl Working Group annually check the nesting boxes of barn owls. These are mainly on churches, but also on farms and, for example, in the mill of Denderwindeke. This year is a bad year for mice and there are far fewer owlets. Last year there were 9 youngsters in four boxes and now only 2, only in Pollare.
Ringer Wim of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) came by to put a ring on the boy’s paws as part of scientific research. Pastor Alexander blessed the owlets. For this, the young were taken from the nest box at the top of the church tower so that those present could have a good look at them below. Afterwards, the young went back to their parents in the nest box and the church council of Pollare and Natuurpunt Ninove offered those present a drink.
