Geraardsbergen. The works on the weir have been partially completed, but have been halted since October 2017. The building permit was annulled. In the meantime, preparations for the restart continue. In consultation with the city of Geraardsbergen, De Vlaamse Waterweg nv is fully committed to restarting the works and a new weir’, says Thomas De Wannemaeker, project engineer at De Vlaamse Waterweg nv. ‘In the course of 2023, the works on the dam in Geraardsbergen will be restarted.’
The program includes a fish pass, the construction of a service building with wooden cladding, adaptation of the weir and the lock, the redevelopment of the lock square with benches and a better cycling and walking connection.
‘The Geraardsbergen weir will be given absolute priority. This is because of the impact on the environment and the specific risks for the operating staff.”
