Op Tuesday 31 May 2022 Okra sport Brakel-Lierde and okra meeting point Nederbrakel, in close collaboration with the Bernardustechnicum van Oudenaarde, has a MEMORIDE organized for the benefit of the DE KLEPPE holiday center in Everbeek-Beneden. Two bicycles were permanently cycled between 10 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. in the beautiful region of the Flemish Ardennes. All 130 attendees could follow this on a big screen via google street viewer.
Erik Van Steenberge (Team leader Okra Trefpunt Nederbrakel): “Meanwhile, people could enjoy a tasty aperitif, a cold meat platter, coffee with cake and sandwiches with coffee. There was a performance by our line dancers and by the music group “De Kluivers”. Thanks in part to our sponsors and all those present, this action has a net proceeds of 2550 euros.”
This check was handed over to those in charge of De Kleppe during the coffee table yesterday.
“DE KLEPPE” is a holiday center where vulnerable people can go (disability, autism, poverty, people in need of care). People for whom vacation is usually not so obvious. At “DE KLEPPE” they experience a good holiday with the necessary care.
People with physical limitations also like to adventure and have fun outdoors, but because of their limitations this is usually not possible. At De Kleppe we adapt our infrastructure, services and activities in such a way that people can have fun and can and dare to take on challenges. Do not confront them again and again with that limitation, but look at the possibilities and adjust our offer accordingly!
Some time ago, the volunteer team in “De Kleppe” came up with the idea to install a large wheelchair swing. People in wheelchairs are always on the side of a playground, they cannot participate in the game. People come to De Kleppe to enjoy themselves, to do activities with the animals, to experience a holiday, but also to play and have fun. With such a device we make a difference again and you will not find it on public playgrounds. There is also no (care) holiday center in Belgium that has such a device.
Given the exclusivity and the fact that such a device must be able to support the great weight of electric wheelchairs, this is not cheap. De Kleppe has already been sponsored for this for an amount of € 6500, but an extra € 2550 was needed for the realization, which corresponds to the amount donated by Okra Nederbrakel and Okra Sport Brakel-Lierde.
