It is important that these strips are clearly visible so that cyclists occupy the correct position on the road surface and that they are clearly visible to traffic. These strips also visually narrow the road, causing drivers to (hopefully) slow down.
The strips in Kerkstraat and Wassegemstraat in Deftinge were no longer so clearly visible, which put road safety at risk. The municipality has therefore decided to give it a complete refurbishment. The existing red strips were first water jetted and completely cleaned before reapplying them in bright yellow.
With this renovation, the municipality hopes that cyclists can cycle safely along these streets, which are used a lot by school-age children and their parents.
“By updating the bicycle lanes, the school environment in Deftinge is once again a bit safer for vulnerable road users.” Alderman for mobility and traffic Katelijne Scheirlinckx, who is very satisfied with the result, tells us.
