From 1 July you can once again visit the Makegem forests in Merelbeke, this time to solve ‘The mystery of the Merelbekkers’. The local council Merelbeke has come up with a new story that is particularly suitable for families with sleuths between 3 and 12 years.
After a first acquaintance with the ‘Order of the Blackbirds’ last year, there will be a follow-up from 1 July. Characters such as Steltmeester, Stanislav the Tawny Owl, Thijsje & Gunther and Gladde Steven tell you in audio fragments what happened at night in the forest. It’s up to you to find out who or what caused a commotion in the forest based on their twittering and accompanying assignments.
‘We are very proud that we can send this second gem of the Merelbekkersroute to the families’, says alderman of Tourism Daisy Poriau. ‘Thanks to this new story you get to know the Merelbekkers better and better, which makes you crave for more. It’s great that we can offer this in a beautiful piece of nature in our municipality.’
Start your exploration
The starting point of the route is at the beginning of Bosstraat. That is about 1 kilometer from the information point in Munte. Signposts lead you to the right path. Please note: until mid-July you may experience disruption in the direction of the starting point due to road works.
What do you need?
With a well-sharpened pencil in one hand, the discovery brochure in the other hand and a smartphone with the (free) heritage app on it, you are all set to enter the Makegemse forests. The discovery brochure can be found at the starting point of the route. That may cause some choice stress, because you can choose between two stories on three different routes. And it doesn’t get any easier, but all the more fun, because there will be two new adventures in the future with the same main characters!
