Scouts Zottegem has put into use a mobile solar panel installation where it can provide the necessary energy during its summer and other camps.
“Last year we had the idea with scouts Zottegem to build a mobile solar panel installation in order to be able to take fridges with us to camp to replace our old gas fridges. This way we have better fridges and electricity at camp in an environmentally friendly way”, says Seppe Cantaert of Scouts Zottegem† “With this idea, we have applied for subsidies from Cera and the Province of East Flanders. We received a green light for both subsidies last year! We then started building our installation and it is now finally finished, inspected and ready to go to camp! We have 1.2 kW of solar panels on the trailer with a usable battery capacity of 3.2 kWh. The inverter has a maximum power of 5.5 kW with a maximum of 2.4 kW in regime. There are sockets on the inside and outside so that an extension cable can easily be connected. This installation should therefore ensure that we never run into problems with 2 large refrigerators, even if the weather is bad for a few days. With this installation we can also charge mobile phones or a music box or use lamps for cooking when the weather is bad. So never bake sausages with a headlight on your head again! We would like to thank BPK cooling techniques, Kilowatt Solar and electrical De Smet Van Damme for their help with this project and of course we would like to thank Cera and the Province of East Flanders again for making this fun project possible!”
