The city of Zottegem is pulling out all the stops for the celebration of the Flemish Holiday on Monday 11 July with free performances by the city carillonneur, Bal Merklez, the Louie Louie Coverband and Yevgueni. Meet at the Market Square.
The festivities start at 5 p.m. with the concert of city carillonneur Paul Hoste. He performs work by Flemish masters, original carillon works and variations on eighteenth-century chamber music. At 19.00 it’s the turn Left Merkel† This Zottegemse 11-piece klezmer and balkan band performs traditional and self-written songs with a repertoire that mainly consists of “typical inciting up-tempo songs and tearjerkers that grab your throat”. At 8.45 pm they recapture the stage for a second time. The Louie Louie Coverband plays at 7.30pm and takes you on a journey of discovery back to the sixties. The four like-minded souls pay tribute to their heroes. The biggest artists such as The Beatles, The Stones and The Doors are covered. The headliner is Yevgeni† It starts at 9.30 pm and brings poetic fusions of cabaret, chanson and pop.
“In honor of the Flemish Holiday, we will again treat you to a free folk festival for young and old on 11 July. On that day, stages all over Flanders are filled with musical Flemish talent. And in Zottegem we are also transforming the Market into a party square. It promises to be a spectacular edition with a varied program, music as a common thread and lots of fun.” say Mayor Evelien De Both and City Marketing Alderman Brecht Cassiman (N-VA).
“Our cultural center CC Zoetegem has indeed put together a top poster,” complements alderman of culture Lieselotte De Roover (CD&V)† “It will be a wonderful mix of performances. There is homegrown talent, the best pop and rock hits from the past and beautiful cabaret. Everything is completely free and reservations are not necessary. A bar and food trucks provide the necessary refreshments. Everyone is welcome for a big party!”
