On Sunday 22 May 2022, the Classica Pollentia, a cycling tour, took place in Lierde. The organization promised to donate one euro per participant to the Lierdse OCMW. Thanks to a good number of 1,114 participants, they were able to hand over a check for 1,140 euros.
The cycling tour was organized by the company Pollentia, located on the Wolfsveld industrial estate in Lierde, and was part of the Corsa Campagnolo circuit. During this event, cyclists could choose between a family bike ride of 30 km or recreational bike rides of 50 or 80 km.
Before the start of the event, Jo Grieten, manager of Pollentia, had promised that 1 euro per participant would be donated to the CPAS in Lierde. No fewer than 1114 cyclists rode one of the signposted routes, which allowed the Lierde CPAS to receive a check for 1,140 euros.
This amount will be used to purchase food stamps from local merchants. The vouchers themselves will be added to the food parcels intended for the least fortunate in Lierde.
“We are very pleased that such an event, organized by an entrepreneur from our municipality and in our municipality, has received such a good number of participants. Thanks to this numerous turnout, we were able to receive a check for a nice amount on behalf of the Lierdse OCMW.” says Mayor Jurgen Soetens.
Alderman and chairman of the social service Antoine Van de Maele adds “This amount will be well spent within our municipality. The vouchers will not only be available at dealers in Lierde, but will give the less fortunate the opportunity to choose for themselves what they wish to buy. We thank the organization for this generous donation”
