“Whoever wants to cool down the house naturally, now is the time”, one says from the Weather station Flemish Ardennes – Erwetegem & D’Hoppe know.
“Pretty cool, and even cold in the valleys this morning. Brakel is currently slightly above 5°C, with a minimum of 5.1°C. The higher ridges are currently around 11-12°C. During the day we already rise to 28°C, which is ideal summer weather for many people. But then…Monday, sweltering air will arrive at a rapid pace from the southwest. This means that our Flemish Ardennes and West Flanders are in the front row for the highest maximums. On Monday we climb, often with sunny moments, to 35-36°C. And then comes Tuesday… Sun-drenched and the hot air reaching its peak. It is very hot in the morning. In the course of the afternoon we will reach maximums between 37 and 39°C, whereby even a 40 or very local 41°C cannot be ruled out.”
“Until 5 years ago, no one would have thought that we would reach 40°C so quickly. At the end of July 2019 it was time. The highest temperature was measured in Begijnendijk, it became 41.8°C. Since the beginning of the observations, it has NEVER been warmer than 40°C in Belgium. 38 and 39°C were already extreme outliers…
So now, 3 years later, we will possibly go above 40°C again… Tuesday evening there may be some thunderstorms, and Wednesday may also have a thunderstorm. It will therefore become more bearable with maximums around 27 or 28°C. Later in the week, the mercury will hover between 24 and 28°C. Enjoy the coolness right now! And don’t forget… The snowflakes will come again…”
