Anyone who dares to say that there is not much to see in Zottegem may have forgotten that there is also a Tourism Office on the Markt in the old Town Hall.
I just walked in and came out with a bunch of brochures. Oh my thought. Never thought about it even though I’ve been living in Zottegem for several years. My attention initially went to: MUSEUM for FOLKLORE, Grotenbergestraat 162. It was quite a bit of work to get there by bike, but I managed. I’ll be honest, I got off the last 100 meters and continued on foot. The museum is housed in the former rectory of Grotenberge, near the playground of Grotenberge. I’m expected there by Annie. She and Carine, are the two guides of the museum.
In the courtyard I immediately see a few old machines. I will not reveal what they are for. Inside the museum there are 9 thematically decorated rooms with objects from grandmother’s time. Why not grandfather’s time? I’ll list them for you:
- late nineteenth century dining place
- cafe from grandmother’s time – I stayed there for a long time
- glove level
- religious room
- household utensils
- a school class from back then
- old crafts
- regional history
- hat loft
I can do an explanation for each, but then I’ll be sweet for an hour. Better you go see it for yourself. You will be amazed at how quickly everything has evolved.
