As part of the construction of the bicycle axis, part of Vossenstraat will be closed to traffic from 2 August. The Kruispunt Dorpsplein-Kloosterstraat on Mellebrug will also be closed to traffic from 8 August. This implies that motorized traffic will no longer be able to drive over the Scheldt bridge from then on. If you want to go to Heusden or come from Heusden, you will have to follow a major detour. The parking lot at the cemetery is also being renovated in this phase.
The construction of the bicycle axis involves the (re)construction of bicycle and pedestrian paths along Vossenstraat, Gemeenteplein, Kerkstraat, Dorpsplein and Kruisstraat. The renovations are divided into different phases in order to limit the nuisance.
Mobility and expected nuisance
Vossenstraat cycle paths
on August 2 the contractor will start constructing bicycle paths in the Vossenstraat from the Gontrode Heirweg to the Wolvenstraat.
Contrary to previous reports, through traffic is not possible from the Gontrode Heirweg in the direction of the station. No through traffic will be possible due to the length of the construction zone and the number of bends.
The redirection direction Gontrode Heirweg runs via Wolvenstraat and Lindestraat.
refurbishment crossroads Mellebrug
In front of the works at the intersection Kloosterstraat – Dorpsplein (Mellebrug) quite a bit of disruption is expected. Since the refuge is also being reconstructed, it will be a be impossible to cross the bridge for a while to drive. The intersection is completely closed.
Anyone who wants to go to Heusden or comes from Heusden will therefore have to make a detour during these works. The bridge will not be accessible to motorized traffic.
Cyclists and pedestrians
The passage will still be possible for cyclists and pedestrians. Cyclists must dismount and pass the construction zone with their bicycles.
The contractor will try to keep this period of total closure as short as possible. The start date is 8 augustus and the probable end date is 31 augustus.
Keep the works breakdown and earthworks, after which the parking lot will be redeveloped. The car park will be completely closed and will no longer be accessible until the end of the works. The timing is set from August 2 to September 20.
