A view of Huis Van De Sande in the Stationsstraat in Zottegem, a ‘monument’ in itself.
We let Hendrik and his wife do the talking.
“My grandfather Gilbert went to a cremerie in Brussels in 1920 to learn the craft of making traditional ice cream. He then started an ice cream consumable business in Zottegem, with a specialty store for tobacco and cigars, supplemented with a tea room. My father Louis continued the business. And then myself. I was planning to retire this year due to retirement age. But we decided to add another year.”
The store is known for its Art-Deco style, but especially for the artisanal ice cream that is still made according to his grandfather’s recipe.
You can also go there for all kinds of tobacco products. But also for a delicious coffee and a little hunger.
Hendrik and his wife quietly hope that this case will not be lost.
Come and see for yourself while you still can. You won’t regret it.
