The city of Zottegem and the Public Waste Agency of Flanders (OVAM) have announced that GAS enforcers will also be on the road during Dance D-Vision next weekend to catch litter offenders.
“Rock Zottegem and Dance D-Vision are the two biggest events in our Egmont city. The two festivals are attracting thousands of visitors this summer. Unfortunately, these visitors sometimes also bring litter with them. The two festivals were passed on to OVAM from the start of the enforcement project in March 2022. The GAS enforcers then set out to check the streets around the festival meadow of the Bevegemse Vijvers for litter and cigarette butts.” clarifies aldermen of Leef Milieu Leen Goossens (CD&V).
“On Saturday 9 and 10 July, two regional enforcers came to Zottegem during the Rock Zottegem weekend. They carried out several checks and drew up five administrative reports. All violations were due to the disposal of butts. The reports are now sent to the GAS official who decides on the fine.” adds mayor Evelien De Both (N-VA).
“After Rock Zottegem, we noticed that the organizers themselves also put a lot of effort into keeping the neighborhood clean. During the festival there was little litter in the surrounding streets. We would like to thank both organizations for their efforts to keep their festivals litter-free. If the festival-goers themselves also contribute, it remains pleasant for everyone.” decision ships Goosens.
