Geraardsbergen. Given the current extreme weather conditions and code red for fire risk in nature, the traditional fireworks, which would take place on Friday, September 2, 2022, will be cancelled. The fireworks concert and performance by DJ Lars Vegas will continue. Local Board Geraardsbergen is looking at the possibility of moving the fireworks to the Christmas period.
The summer fair in Geraardsbergen will take place from Friday 26 August to Wednesday 7 September 2022. Numerous activities are on the program, traditionally including the musical fireworks on the Markt. At the moment, code red still applies to wildfires and forest fires throughout Flanders and too little precipitation is forecast in the coming days to change that. In consultation with the South-East Fire Department, the Emergency Planning Department of the Governor of East Flanders, the Emergency Planning Department of the Local Administration Geraardsbergen and fireworks maker Christophe Byl, it was decided to cancel the fireworks on Friday 2 September.
The fireworks will be moved to the Christmas period and thus provide an extra magical atmosphere. The date of this will be announced later.
The other activities for the summer fair will continue as planned. On Friday 2 September you can still visit the Market for the fireworks concert, played by Concertband Cecilia Geraardsbergen, followed by the performance of DJ Lars Vegas.
