Bike Republic, Colruyt Group’s bicycle chain, will take over CycloM in Ninove and Aalst from September 1, 2022. Both stores will soon be given a Bike Republic look. The CycloM team will, however, remain on duty. Bike Republic Aalst and Ninove are now the 26th and 27th Bike Republic store and will follow shortly after the acquisition of IMP Bike in Evere – the first Bike Republic in the Brussels-Capital Region.
It’s a busy summer at Bike Republic. The Colruyt Group bicycle chain has only just planted its flag in Brussels with the acquisition of IMP Bike in Evere and a new chapter in the expansion story follows. CycloM, the bicycle shop with branches in Ninove and Aalst, becomes Bike Republic. This rapid expansion fits within a conscious strategy and ambition to become the reference in the field of e-bikes and smart mobility in a rapidly changing bicycle industry.
Upscaling is becoming increasingly important
A revolution is underway in the bicycle sector and that is precisely why Bike Republic continues to actively look for opportunities. “It sounds contradictory, but it is precisely the enormous popularity of bicycles that has left many smaller bicycle shops in turbulent waters. The corona pandemic resulted in extremely long delivery times and shortages at certain suppliers. And now that fuel prices are skyrocketing, people are starting to think more consciously about their mobility. We therefore do not see the demand for electric bicycles fall immediately, which is why scaling up and expanding our own stocks are becoming increasingly important.” said Teerlynck.
On to 60 stores in Belgium
Bike Republic wants to be a companion for every moment of the route for its customers. In addition to service and craftsmanship, there is also a strong focus on accessibility. Wim Teerlynck, general manager for Bike Republic: “Our ambition is to expand our retail park to 60 stores in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia in the coming years. Research has shown that customers are willing to drive an average of up to 20 minutes to a good bike shop. We therefore strive for coverage that makes it possible for everyone to be in a Bike Republic store within that time frame. Until now, the Dender region was still a ‘blind spot’ for us. That is now changing with the acquisition of CycloM.”
The same team, a wider range
CycloM – just like Bike Republic – guarantees quality, a personal approach and good service. Nothing will change, because the motivated team that has made CycloM a success story in recent years will remain the same. Even more: Bike Republic is looking for additional salespeople and technicians to strengthen the colleagues in Aalst and Ninove. Customers can therefore still count on the same familiar faces and remain welcome with their bicycle for maintenance and repair, even if they bought it elsewhere. The range is also maintained at the moment and will be further expanded in the near future with a nice range of electric bicycles and speed pedelecs from different brands. Manager Marijn Van den Bleeken will support the business development of Bike Republic based on his expertise.
Companies can also contact Bike Republic
By the way, at Bike Republic Aalst and Bike Republic Ninove not only private individuals are welcome. Companies and SMEs can also go there to purchase or lease company bicycles. To support and unburden business leaders and HR managers from A to Z, the B2B department of Bike Republic even puts together a tailor-made bicycle plan. In this way, employers can easily make the mobility of their employees more sustainable and, above all, more efficient.
