KA Zottegem starts the new school year with a new director. An Van de Wiele replaces Marijke Meul. Of the 304 new students at the school, 239 are freshmen. That brings the total to 1065 students.
“As a former student and former teacher of the school, An knows very well what the KAZ stands for and she wants to further expand innovative education”, is explained from the KAZ.
“I am very grateful to Marijke for what she has achieved here at school in recent years and see it as a unique opportunity to further shape the project that she and her predecessors have already built here,” according to An Van de Wiele. “Our new building is not divided into classrooms, but into large spaces that allow for shared and varied learning. In this way we can offer education in personal trajectories, with interactive spaces in which students take charge of their own learning process and learn to work independently. All students in the first grade also receive a Chromebook free of charge, which they can take home during their entire KAZ career. For the higher years, more than enough devices are available at school. And in the second and third degree, we further refine our CLIL offer. CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning ed.) means that we offer non-language courses in French and English. For example, in the third to fifth year, we already offer economics lessons in English. We have also provided a foreign language variant for some elective courses in the fourth and sixth year. As a science teacher, I am also very proud of the seventh year Special scientific education, with which we prepare young people extra for studying a mathematical-scientific specialization in higher education or at university. We also prepare them for entrance exams. You will find this direction in only two schools throughout East Flanders, in Ghent and with us.”
