Local board Merelbeke is putting ten affordable new-build apartments with one or two bedrooms for sale. Interested buyers can apply from 1 September. “We are targeting residents who do not qualify for social housing, but who also find it difficult to find a home on the regular owner-occupied market,” says alderman Isabelle Van De Steene.
Merelbeke is in the top ten of most expensive municipalities in East Flanders. With the Hebbelynck project, local government Merelbeke is working on affordable housing in its own municipality.
The housing project between the old justice of the peace and the sports domain has a total of 48 energy-efficient apartments and one commercial space. “Local council Merelbeke sells ten apartments of this. In this way we reduce the sales price and it is about 37,500 euros below the market price”, explains alderman Isabelle Van De Steene.
The new construction project is in the hands of project developer Defrabo. The preparatory works have already started and everything should be ready in the summer of 2024.
Priority to own residents
In addition to property and income conditions, the municipal council works with a points system. For example, priority is given to people who have lived in Merelbeke for at least 3 years in the past 5 years. Single parents, families with children, families with a family member with a disability, young people under the age of thirty, people over 70 and social tenants also receive extra points.
To apply as candidate
Interested buyers can apply from September 1, 2022 to November 15, 2022. Depending on the family situation, you can choose between an apartment with one or two bedrooms. These are located on the ground floor as well as on the first floor. In addition, each apartment has a south-facing side overlooking the communal garden.
