On Sunday September 4, 2022, the Free Time Service in Lierd organized a Leisure Fair for the first time. This fair took place in OC De Lier, sports hall De Zandloper, on the playground of primary school De Kei, the sports park and the Gemeenteplein. You could get acquainted with the various sports and cultural associations in Lierde. All associations had put their best foot forward to present their operation. Some with a beautiful information stand, others with demonstrations and initiations and/or workshops. One could also have his bicycle engraved and there was a stand of radio Mfm where a live broadcast of RadioSport was provided. The 25 km long promo ride “Women in the cycling peloton” also started from this radio Mfm stand.
Sixteen ladies had answered the call from radio producer Kurt De Gelas and were at the start of this initiative supported by Sport Vlaanderen, month of the sports club, sports experience more, veloclub De Moedige Wielrijders Deftinge and radio Mfm.
Furthermore, the official opening of the dance loft, which was postponed due to corona, was also linked to this fair.
Perhaps not such a good idea to start with this, because the majority of those present stayed on the playground of the school and in the cafeteria of the sports hall after this opening. Unfortunately, many of them, perhaps also because of the limited duration of the fair, did not find their way to the stands of the cultural associations in OC De Lier.
This may have been a minus, but overall this first leisure fair was a success. The three ladies who make up the Leisure department really gave the best of themselves to make this event what it was and deserve a big compliment. Not only them, of course, because the many volunteers of the participating associations also contributed to the success.
An initiative that is certainly worth repeating.
