In a previous NUUS message (see via this link) could/can you read in more detail that, in the context of the new parking plan that it Zottegemse city council wants to implement, now that the third and fourth phase are being rolled out. In concrete terms, it comes down to the paid parking zone in the city center will be expanded from Monday 5 September will be completed with ten streets (located between Heldenlaan and the railway verge) where the blue zone scheme will come to an end and parking will therefore also be paid. It’s about the L. De MetsstraatVestenstraat, Grensstraat, North Street, DolageKapellestraat, Hospitaalstraat, De Pauwstraat, Nijverheidsstraat and Musselystraat. The aim of this change is to halt the search for a free parking space in these streets. Residents of these streets can still park there with their resident card. Furthermore, the parking in the Nijverheidsstraat will continue to be paid, but from now on it will also be accessible to direct residents who are in possession of a resident card.
In the press release that the city council had distributed about this expansion of the paid parking zone in the city center, it can be read that this changed parking regulation also involves infrastructural adjustments. However, more concrete information about this is not provided. NUUS made the effort to find out which adjustments are involved. An overview:
- Contrary to the past no more parking meters in the following seven places: in the Nieuwstraat (opposite the O.-L.-Vrouwcollege/campus center), L. De Metsstraat (halfway between Heldenlaan and Vestenstraat), Hospitaalstraat (near CC I will cry), Vesten street (t.h.v. Citroën garage), Vestenstraat (t.h.v. Thrift shop), Stair Street (t.h.v. house number 23) and Kazernstraat (t.h.v. Hall Helios).
- The deleted parking machines have been given a new place at the corner De Pauwstraat / Kapellestraat, corner Kapellestraat / L. De Metsstraatintersection Nijverheidsstraat / L. De Metsstraat / Grensstraat, corner Hospitaalstraat / Musselystraathalf way Musselystraat and corner Vestenstraat / North Street.
- A total of eleven information boards (see photo) are provided at six of the seven aforementioned places where the parking meter disappeared (not in the lower part of Trapstraat because parking is no longer allowed there) as well as on the corner Nijverheidsstraat / De Pauwstraat, corner Grensstraat / North Streethoek North Street / Dolagein the Of Pauwstraat and Kapellestraat. These information signs recommend parking and paying via SMS/app and/or refer to the nearest payment terminal (albeit without stating where or in which direction it is located).
Despite the expansion of the paid parking zone, the College of Mayor and Aldermen has therefore not opted for purchasing additional payment terminals, but for moving devices that are no longer useful (such as in the Trapstraat) or with little revenue on their former place. Vfor moving the seven parking machines and from topurchase of the eleven information plates are costs estimated at 7,000 euros. The fifth and last phase of the new parking plan, which must be introduced at a later date, concerns the introduction of a blue zone (with resident cards) throughout Bevegem. However, this will happen when the parking at the back of the station is charged by the NMBS.
