CC De Plomblom will start the new season on September 17 with the show ‘Farewell to a car’ by Het Nieuwstedelijk. A few days later, a temporary ‘Café Cultuur’ opens in the Ninoof cultural center.
Car-free Sunday eve
‘Goodbye to a car’ is a story of goodbye. Of car ownership in general and of one beloved car in particular. In 1982, novelist Julio Cortazar and photographer Carol Dunlop traveled from Paris to Marseille. Via the Autoroute du Soleil, aboard their Volkswagen van. It took them a full month, because they stopped at every highway parking lot and spent the night at every second parking lot. This absurd-poetic journey resulted in the novel ‘De Autonauten van de Kosmosnelweg’. In 2020, theater and audio maker Adriaan Van Aken (Het Nieuwstedelijk) repeated this journey. According to the same regulations, but alone, on board his family car. Goal: to reach Marseille after 30 days and 60 stops and sell his car there. Then to start a car-free existence.
‘Farewell to a car’ plays on Saturday 17 September at 8 pm: a perfect performance on the eve of car-free Sunday.
On September 21, CC De Plomblom will open a ‘Café Cultuur’ for the second year in a row. The culture center moves the seats aside and transforms the theater into a café. With real pints on the table and artists of all kinds on stage. With culture that demolishes familiar walls and peeps behind fresh doors. With a focus on local talent. ‘Café Culture’ sets the tone for the fresh season and serves greedy bites of the many goodies that CC De Plomblom will be presenting in the coming months.
The honor of kicking off on Wednesday 21 September at 8 pm goes to pianist, musicologist and philosopher Waldo Geuns. The storytelling concert ‘The born entertainer’ takes us to the world of George Gerswhin. Besides ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ and songs such as ‘Summertime’ or ‘I got Rhythm’, Waldo Geuns also plays piano works by Antonín Dvořák, Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky and Nikolai Kapoestin.
Other guests in ‘Café Cultuur’ include Alice Mae, Outer, Avenue Louise, Belgium Low Brass Quartet, The Chachas, Ivo Van Strijtem & Head full of flames, Belgiums least wanted (comedycup), Jonas De Bruyn, Meta Ensemble, Katrien Verfaillie and Boshaard.
