Brakers who paid a visit to the market on Wednesday received a tasty apple from the Vlaams Belang department of Brakel. The campaign was part of the picking month. Nothing is tastier and healthier than a tasty apple or pear, they are juicy, crunchy and a perfect snack, says councilor Veronique Lenvain.
With this action we want to support our local pickers and in this way we want to encourage our people and especially our children to eat a piece of fruit every day.
Instead of importing apples from New Zealand, we’d better consume more apples from our own apple growers
About 22,992 tons of apples were imported from New Zealand in 2020. “It is actually no longer justifiable these days that we are going to get our apples more than 10,000 kilometers from here,” says Lenvain. “I therefore call on everyone to eat more home-grown apples. This is not only in the interest of our Flemish apple growers and the economy, but also simply better for the environment.”
