Geraardsbergen. The GO! Atheneum Geraardsbergen has been an anchor school for two years now within the project ‘Example schools for cognitively strong students’ and, with its Delta operation, is strongly committed to a flexible learning trajectory for cognitively strong students who want more challenges.
The GO! Atheneum Geraardsbergen, together with the other 11 anchor schools and the TALENT Expertise Center of the KU Leuven, completed the two past project years with a practice-oriented study day. Delta teacher mr. Bram De Geeter of the GO! Atheneum Geraardsbergen will share its findings and look back with satisfaction on this very successful project that is still developing on the school campus.
After two years of Project Example Schools for Cognitive Strong Functioning (CSF) students, the twelve anchor schools are eager to spread their applicable tips and knowledge even further. With varied, practical workshops and lectures for every level of education, the schools hope to inspire other schools on this study day to get started with the group of cognitively talented students.
For the first time, at the request of Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts, resources were made available for a broad policy on giftedness. “Gifted children and young people are still too often a forgotten group,” says Weyts. “We invested €500,000 to be able to recognize and help these young people across the entire educational landscape in time.” The anchor schools, such as the GO! Atheneum Geraardsbergen, were given the task, guided by the Expertise Center, to substantiate their good practices scientifically and to disseminate them within the Flemish educational field.”
Today the anchor schools are ready to share knowledge, practices and experiences more widely and to inspire other schools and interested parties with it.
The inspiration book will also be launched on the study day, which was written by and for teachers of pre-primary education, primary and secondary education. The GO! Atheneum Geraardsbergen looks forward passionately to be able to share the expertise gained in the field of archery and continues to focus on expanding its own Delta operation.
