Geraardsbergen. During the city council of October 4, 2022, an annual bonus package was approved to encourage citizens to carry out energy-saving works. This reduces their energy consumption and increases the value of their property. The local government wants to offer its citizens a structural solution with this, now that the market prices for gas and electricity are swinging and hitting everyone hard.
Geraardsbergen residents can currently apply for two different grants: one to increase basic comfort in their home and one to beautify their facade. The works that qualify for these grants, however, are not focused enough on energy saving. The premiums will therefore expire at the end of November and will be replaced by one new renovation premium.
This new municipal premium has further effect on the Flemish ‘My VerbouwPremie’. This bundles the former Flemish energy premiums and renovation premium. ‘My VerbouwPremie’ can be applied for for the renovation and insulation of roofs, exterior walls and floors, the installation of new windows and doors and the future-oriented heating of homes and sanitary hot water such as heat pumps, heat pump boilers and solar boilers.
An owner of a house in Geraardsbergen who receives the ‘My Renovation Premium’ will receive 20% of this premium on top from the local government. Anyone who receives 10,000 euros ‘My Renovation Premium’ is therefore entitled to an additional municipal renovation premium of 2,000 euros. The local government provides an annual budget of 750,000 euros for this, up to and including 2025.
“The Flemish ‘Mijn VerbouwPremie’ is well organized, both in terms of eligible works and target groups that are entitled to the premium. It is therefore logical that we continue to work on this. We will fully support our citizens in applying for their “My Renovation Premium” and the associated municipal renovation premium. The latter can be requested from December 1, 2022. Until then, the old regulations will still apply”, indicates Alderman of Living, David Larmuseau.
The Housing department will soon hold an information session about, among other things, the new municipal renovation grant. More information will be available on the local government website and Facebook channel. If you want more information about the premium in the meantime, you can make an appointment with the Housing department via the appointment module on the website or 054 43 44 81.
