Geraardsbergen. “Since N-VA Geraardsbergen entered the city council (about 10 years ago), the party warns that the various municipal authorities under the leadership of CD&V, SP.a-Vooruit and Open VLD are doing far too little to build up reserves and buffers.” , says Filip D’Hose, board member at the N-VA. ‘However, this is one of the essential principles of good housekeeping: you have to put aside a nest egg during the prosperous times in order to survive more difficult times. The traditional parties have repeatedly ignored these warnings.’
D’Hose is therefore very sharp in his criticism: ‘The alarm cry of Mayor De Padt about the pitiful state of the municipal finances, caused by the energy crisis and inflation, is therefore laughable, even vengeful. This is definitely guilty negligence! For prestige projects and events to the greater honor and glory of our mayor, there has been (a lot of) money to be found in recent years. But any effort was too much to secure the future of our future generations. Moreover, it is thanks to the Flemish Government of Minister-President Jan Jambon and Minister of Finance Mathias Diependaele that Geraardsbergen was given a financial lifeline and was enabled to pay the pensions of the statutory civil servants.’
N-VA Geraardsbergen therefore once again denounces the disastrous financial mismanagement of this coalition. If the N-VA were to be part of the next administrative majority, a reorganization of the city’s finances would become one of its priority policy points.
