On Saturday 8 October, a ‘Repair Café’ was again organized in the GILO, Geraardsbergsesteenweg 69, in Oosterzele. Dozens of people from Oosterzelen seized the opportunity to have their defective devices repaired. When we join the start of the Repair Café at 10 am, it is immediately very busy at the registration table. It was rarely this busy. The fact is: the Repair Café in Oosterzele is very popular. The high prices, the rising lifespan, exploding energy bills, … are driving more and more people to the Repair Cafés. It is remarkable, there is no longer any point in having defective items repaired. More and more people have it less wide. The shyness has disappeared. Why buy new and expensive in these very expensive times, if it can still be repaired. More and more people have the same idea. Much appreciation for the efforts of the FV Repair Café. Thanks, fixers!
It turned out once again. All kinds of things that are actually not much wrong were repaired by the fixers. The repairmen went to work once more enthusiastically. With the Repair Café they want to stop the urge to throw away and reduce the gigantic mountain of waste. It’s a shame really, things that can still be repaired are all too often just thrown away. Repairing is a good way to do something about it. After the overwhelming start, visitors regularly seep in. This edition broke all records. Quite a few tools were offered that needed urgent repair. And behold, thanks to the ‘fixers’ many pieces were given a new life. A number of electricity could not be repaired (iron for example). The aim is to set up an environmentally and socially friendly project. Not only do they reduce waste, they also change consciousness. But those who didn’t have things to repair could also come to the cafe for a cup of coffee, beer, soft drink, something hearty, … and very important for a chat. Indeed, the ‘Repair Café’ has also become a meeting place. Drinks are served at very reasonable prices.
The first Repair Café took place on March 7, 2015. The idea arose within the board of KWB Oosterzele. A commendable initiative. We forget that we do not have an inexhaustible resource of raw materials. Fortunately, the FV Repair Café Oosterzele continues to promote repair as an alternative to indiscriminately throwing away. It also wants to retain the repair knowledge. The appreciation spoke volumes and is regarded as a boost to continue the Repair Café without hesitation. (mvdv, photos ddl)
