From 11 September, Rural TV will be looking for ‘De Strafste Boerin’. “Five years after the last Cleanest Farmer was elected, we want to dust off this idea,” explains Diederik De Clercq, general manager of Plattelands Tv. “The winner must become a true ambassador for the sector.” Due to a lack of sponsors, the ninth edition of the Cleanest Farmer Election in 2019 was canceled. This made Mieke Verniest from Zwalm the last ambassador for the agricultural and horticultural sector, but that is about to change with the Plattelands Tv initiative. It can count on the support of Boerenbond and NewHolland.
Flanders has a lot of tough farmers and horticulturists who often still work in the shadow of what for centuries was a man’s world. Yet it is the women farmers who are often the indispensable centipede on a farm: helping out on the farm, taking care of the family and the household and regularly taking an extra (part-time) job outside the home. That deserves more appreciation and attention.
After 7 episodes, 3 finalists will be chosen, after which we will know the winner on Sunday 6 November. In addition to a trophy, she also receives a travel voucher from Reizen Patteeuw and she can use a New Holland tractor for 1 year. In addition, the Boerenbond and Ferm organizations are important program sponsors.
