After consultation of the council of aldermen with the chairman of the municipal council, the meeting of the municipal council in Oosterzele, scheduled for October 25, will be brought forward by one week (to October 18). This is in response to the opposition’s initiative to convene an extra city council on 12 October in the event of an emergency. The majority notes that the opposition did not put any super urgent item on the agenda for that city council. With regard to the merger theme, there are currently no new elements that require an additional municipal council in case of urgency. The majority of CD&V and N-VA will therefore be absent on October 12, which means that the municipality can be prevented from being charged with useless expenditure. It was impossible to bring forward the municipal council normally scheduled for October 25 to October 12. The administration could not properly prepare the points provided for this fourteen days earlier. Due to this useless and certainly disrespectful action by the opposition, we would then have to organize two municipal councils in October, which would lead to irresponsible costs. The October city council will be brought forward by 1 week. By that time, the administration will be able to prepare the points planned for October with an extra effort. The agenda items for October 12 brought up by the opposition will be added to the agenda for October 18. We thank the administration for the extra efforts it makes to make this possible.
