The extra city council in Oosterzele, which was convened by opposition parties Open Vld Plus and Groen, has been canceled because the CD&V/N-VA majority did not show up. We are bringing forward the planned October city council by one week to answer the questions.
“The majority notes that the opposition did not put any super urgent item on the city council’s agenda. With regard to the merger theme, there are currently no new elements that require an additional municipal council in case of urgency. The majority of CD&V and N-VA will therefore be absent on October 12, which means that the municipality can be prevented from being charged with useless expenditure,” says party leader Pieterjan Keymeulen (CD&V/N-VA).
Proposals on the agenda for the next city council
The opposition regrets the majority’s decision. They speak of political games. “As early as 3 October, we had already submitted a number of concrete proposals to set up a process for the merger. In addition to the merger theme, Open Vld plus put on the agenda a series of other proposals and questions about the establishment of an energy emergency fund for residents of Oosterzelen, tackling hunger at school among vulnerable families, infrastructural support for football clubs, extra framework for childcare, the Local Energy and Climate Pact. and bicycle leasing. Nevertheless, Open Vld plus and Groen jointly conclude that the efforts of their groups do force the majority to act and that a number of points are on the agenda of the next city council,” say group leaders Filip Michiels and Jeroen Logghe.
