Indeed, until a few years ago, four masses were held in Nederzwalm on November 1 (Allerhelige in the vernacular) — each time with a full church
Going along with the evolution of time, over the years there were, two, then one and in 1916 not even none.
It was regrettable that — A centuries-old tradition (existing since 1651) had disappeared… It was an equally old strong tradition that the inhabitants of the surrounding municipalities that formed in history and togetherness (The land of Rhode ) — Nederzwalm — Hermelgem —
Meilegem, Beerlegem, St. Maria-Latem and Paulatem and yet for more than 50 years all the other boroughs of Zwalm and even far beyond, returned to that village that day, many attended mass, were blessed with the relic of All Saints (the shrine has been there since 1651 – and will now be on display)
Visited the cemetery, family gatherings took place and above all that many acquaintances met again in the then numerous village cafes and eateries. In short, a strong reunion of families, friends and acquaintances.
Fortunately — thanks to the organizing committee and with the cooperation of the pastor and the parish unit, this time-honored tradition was restored.
On Tuesday, November 1, 2022 after the 10 a.m. Mass the church choir of Zwalm-Horebeke commemorates the deceased, the cards and the symbol crosses for the deceased of that year are presented to the family
After the service, a FREE BITE AND GLASS is offered by Wesly and Nathalie from “De Partrijs” at the back of the church to all those present. A good opportunity for a nice chat and innovative acquaintance.-
But… There is more – much more!
At the initiative of the organizing party committee — JW Nederzwalm,
there will be the old FUN on the village square from 10 am to 7 pm. The children’s mill is available to all Linderen for FREE.
Other fairground attractions also expect numerous visitors for the traditional folk games
It is mainly thanks to the financial cooperation of Jean Schiettecatte and Koen De Raeve that All Saints’ Fair is getting new life again. So many thanks and appreciation.
The community of Lower ZWALM in particular fully appreciates this initiative. We hope to have a nice chat with the many visitors.
A village reunion of the purest kind!!!
