Geraardsbergen. Everywhere in Flanders initiatives are being taken to save energy in safe and well-considered ways. Together with Bever, Brakel, Lierde, Herzele and Zottegem, Geraardsbergen had opted within the partnership with Fluvius to turn off the lighting along public roads between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., except on Friday and Saturday evenings. These energy-less nights would first be noticeable on Sunday evening, October 30. However, because further practical matters still have to be arranged between Fluvius and the Agency for Roads and Traffic – which is responsible for the regional roads (and the lighting on the regional roads) – the street lighting cannot be switched off this weekend. As a local government, we will immediately communicate the new time to turn off the lights as soon as there is more clarity about this.
