At the October municipal council in Ninove, the reconstruction of the slow road between the village of Nederhasselt and the school on the stone road was approved. The slow road between the Reaalstraat and Geraardsbergsesteenweg will again be 1.5 meters wide as indicated in the official Atlas of Neighborhood Roads and will have a comfortable layer for cycling.
On the route of more than 1 km, the road is partly moved to the side of an agricultural plot where it used to cut through the middle. Some of the landers objected to the widening for fear of privacy. The city is checking whether it cannot place a hedge during the redevelopment to meet this requirement.
Alderman for Public Works and Mobility Wouter Vande Winkel points out the importance of this slow road. “We create a safe and comfortable connection between the village of Nederhasselt and the school, away from the busy Van der Schuerenstraat. We provide more comfort for school-going cyclists with semi-paved surfaces.”
Municipal councilor Jordy De Dobbeleer thanked the city council for the efforts made for the slow roads and asked for sure signage to be provided. “Not only for the hiking loops, but also for all slow roads in themselves. In the neighboring municipalities they already do this with place names and bicycle connections. It can only encourage use even more.”
