The Municipal Academy of Visual Arts (SABK) has honored Stefanie De Meyer, a photography student. After all, she is the 1,000th student of the academy that exists 50 years this year.
“Never before have so many people registered at the Zottegem Academy for Visual Arts. The fact that the milestone of 1000 registrations is reached for the first time in the 50th anniversary year of the academy is a nice coincidence. As if it had to be.” says Paul Nys, director of SABK. “The fact that the 1,000th registration is Stefanie completes the picture. She is already taking photography for the fifth year, a course from our offer for adults. Even as a child, Stefanie was a familiar face at our academy. I taught her myself. It’s great that she, someone who has been going through a very nice trajectory at our academy for years, is our 1,000th registration.”
“There have never been so many registrations at the academy among children, young people and adults as this year. The upward trend had already started in 2017, experienced a small decline due to corona, but now the trend is continuing strongly.” adds Alderman of Culture Lieselotte De Roover (CD&V). “Art education is clearly on the rise. We owe this absolutely to the tireless efforts of the teachers. Not only do they strive for top quality, they have also succeeded in creating a pleasant environment in the academy. It really is a place where everyone feels welcome, and that translates into more and more registrations.”
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the SABK, an exhibition will be organized from November 29 to January 14 with visual material from the school’s archives. In addition, the youth workshops in the courtyard set up an artistic installation entitled ‘De Feesttafel’. The exhibition will be festively opened on Sunday 27 November at 3 pm.
