Zottegemnaar Tim Matthys – on December 23 he will turn 39 – will soon be the new ‘sporting boss’ of football club KV Mechelen.
He has therefore known the Mechelen house for some time because it will be his third job at Malinwa. First, he defended the colors of KV Mechelen in the last five seasons of his career as a professional football player (from 2014 to 2019). He was subsequently appointed as head scout, but already in October 2019 he left Mechelen to work as a scout at AA Gent, where he then became sporting manager in February 2020. In the wake of Peter Verbeke who left the Buffalos to become CEO of Anderlecht, Tim Matthys also moved to the Brussels football club in December 2021 to strengthen the scouting team. After less than a year, the end of his stay at the Lotto Park is now near and he returns to KV Mechelen to set out as sporting director (following Tom Caluwé who moved to Club Brugge). As a professional player, Tim Matthys has been active for fifteen years and played more than 300 games in the highest division of our national football.
