Vooruit Zottegem announces that it will propose to reapply the chorus of Zottegem Blues on the walls of the station tunnel in Zottegem during the next city council on 21 November. Read more about the disappearance of the text via this link.
“Zottegem commuters did not know what they saw in the tunnel of Zottegem station last week. The lyrics of the song ‘Zottegem Blues’ by the Zottegem folk singer and folk hero Miele have disappeared on the walls of the tunnel. The artwork with the famous lyrics was applied in 2016. An initiative of former aldermen for Culture Sandra De Roeck (Vooruit) in collaboration with the Municipal Academy of Visual Arts”, Say Vooruit councilors Yana Giovanis, Peter Roman, Louie Van Rijsselberge and Kurt De Loor. “Apparently NMBS decided to paint the walls of the tunnel and did not pay attention to the artwork. That’s a shame. Miele and Zottegem Blues are in the DNA of the Zottegemnaar. The text in the tunnel was a very nice tribute to the deceased folk singer. It was always a bit like coming home when you came from ‘d’huufdstad van den Belzique’. For us it’s simple: Zottegem Blues by Miele simply belongs in the station tunnel. The artwork and fantastic tribute to Miele and the Zottegemnaar must come back. To reinforce our demand, we are organizing a playful protest at Zottegem station. Monday 14 November ’22 Zottegem Blues will already be played in the station. Anyone who would like to come and sing a tune is welcome at Zottegem station on Monday at 5 pm. ‘We will also propose to put the chorus of Zottegem Blues on the walls again at the next city council on November 21. Because we are happy that we were born in Zottegem….”
