Last weekend, the swimmers of swimming club FIRST Zottegem performed excellently during the Belgian championships small pool in Leuven. Sander Talloen won gold and Pieter Wielandt bronze.
After a good start to the season and a tough training camp during the autumn holidays, the Sander, Siebe, Emile, Pieter and Emma were ready to represent the colors of FIRST Zottegem.
“It was a wonderful weekend with great performances”, says head coach Mathias Van Breusegem. “Emile Tuypens pulverized his personal records and, as a 15-year-old, mainly gained experience in his first major tournament in the open category. Peter Wielandt made the transition to our club last year to reach his top level again in a challenging training group and under supervision and to compete in the finals of major competitions. His hard work was rewarded with no fewer than three places in the finals and, as the highlight, a beautiful bronze medal in the 200-meter medley. The highlight of the weekend came in the name of Sander Tallon. This talented youth swimmer conquered the Belgian title in the 100 meter medley with a beautiful personal best. These fantastic performances make us look forward to the rest of the season and should stimulate the young people who swim the Flemish youth championships this weekend.”
