Geraardsbergen. When the leaves fell, the Technical Service of Local Government Geraardsbergen placed 46 leaf baskets. The leaf baskets are located in streets where there are trees owned by the city. Residents can throw the fallen leaves into the leaf baskets. Pruning waste or leaves from trees on private property are not allowed in.
In Geraardsbergen there are many trees along the roads. Leaf baskets were placed where they belong to the local government. Residents are allowed to throw fallen leaves from municipal trees into these leaf baskets. Garden and pruning waste or leaves from trees or shrubs on private property are not allowed in the leaf basket. This is considered illegal dumping. The leaf baskets will remain in place until the end of this year.
Although the local government is not authorized for regional roads, leaf baskets were also placed on Guilleminlaan, Oudenaardsestraat and Aalstsesteenweg. ‘Fallen leaves can cause nuisance and unsafe situations. Just think of clogged sewer drains and slipperiness on sidewalks or roads. Leaf baskets therefore not only ensure a cleaner environment, they also make the neighborhood a lot safer,’ says Stephan De Prez, alderman for the Environment.
