The public prosecutor’s office says that the investigation into child abuse at the crèche ‘t (B)engeltje in Oudenaarde was reopened after topical articles in the media.
On September 20, 2021, a number of former employees of the crèche ‘t (B)engeltje in Oudenaarde presented themselves to the police. They reported child abuse. The report related to the forced administration of food and drink and the confinement of children in a storage room for several minutes. The report was immediately submitted to the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office and the public prosecutor’s office then started an investigation. The file was then reported to the agency ‘Growing Up’. A number of parents of children who were cared for in the crèche were questioned. The suspects, namely the manageress of the nursery, her mother and her sister, were interrogated and denied the allegations. The facts were extensively investigated, but insufficient evidence emerged from the investigation, after which the file was dropped on January 12, 2022. Between the dismissal and the information currently circulating in the media, no new reports have been submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. In view of current articles in the media, the OVL public prosecutor’s office has decided to officially reopen the investigation.
