Swimming pool De Kleine Dender will be renovated from March 2023 for 18 months. The swimming pool had been struggling for some time with loose tiles that had to be repaired every time, a thorough renovation was necessary.
The city is entering into a public-private partnership with Sportoase for the renovation. This private partner will be responsible for the design and implementation of the renovation. The renovation includes the renewal of the swimming pool itself, including the limited exterior construction. Sportoase is also responsible for the necessary environmental permits and will also take care of the maintenance and operation of the swimming pool after the opening.
Extra swimming and sports area
The renovation will give a completely new look and feel to the building. The number of attractions is expanding. For example, there will be a new slide at the paddling pool, as well as play equipment and a sauna. 160 m² of water will be added: an additional instruction pool with a double movable floor can be used for swimming lessons, group lessons and therapy swimming. More space for the associations, the schools and the individual swimmer. In addition, there will also be room for extra sports on offer through the construction of a hall of mirrors with a wooden floor. This room is suitable for dance, yoga, martial arts, etc. The reception, changing rooms, cash register and camera system will also be renovated.
Attention to energy consumption
To keep energy consumption within limits, additional roof and facade insulation will be installed, and investments will be made in smart windows, rainwater wells, water-saving sanitary facilities and LED and smart lighting. Heat pumps ensure that no fossil fuels have to be used to heat or cool the pool. Ninove becomes one of the forerunners in the application of this technique in Flanders. All these measures prepare the swimming pool for a sustainable future.
Marc Torrekens, alderman for sports: “I am very pleased that the swimming pool that the Ninovieters deserve is now becoming a reality. De Kleine Dender will be a modern complex for sports and recreation, equipped with sustainable technologies with a view to the future.”
During the works
The works will start in March 2023. The duration of the works is estimated at 15 to 18 months. In the meantime, swimming will not be possible. Unfortunately, schools and associations will have to temporarily divert. They were informed about the closure a long time ago, so that they could all take all their precautions. Solutions are also being worked on for the staff.
