The four largest banks, all of which have offices in the center of Ninove (BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC, Belfius and ING), decided some time ago to replace their ATMs with so-called cash points. These are ATMs where customers of the four banks can carry out their transactions.
In Ninove, the new vending machines have been installed in the Ninia Shopping Center. However, the shopping center is only open from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.
“It is therefore not possible to withdraw or deposit money in the evenings and on Sundays and public holidays. This is a limitation in the financial possibilities of the Ninovieter because although a digital alternative is mandatory, not every customer has this alternative. An evening in our local catering industry can therefore be a short evening. This is therefore detrimental to our traders and catering industry. We have also received numerous complaints from citizens about this.” According to Mayor De Jonge.
The mayor has invited the banks to enter into a dialogue to find a solution. A cash point that is accessible 24/7 in Centrum Ninove is therefore a necessity, according to De Jonge. Placing partitions at the current cash point is also necessary to guarantee safety.
De Jonge: “I have therefore asked the Minister of Finance Van Peteghem whether a legal framework can be provided for this. Centralization is a good thing, but our ninovites must be able to make financial transactions at all times and when it suits them.”
