This school year is a jubilee year for the Municipal Academy of Visual Arts in Zottegem. It is indeed fifty years ago that on September 1, 1972, the officially recognized part-time art education in Zottegem started a visual arts course in the ‘drawing school’ as the academy was popularly called at the time. Since then, the academy has experienced steady growth in terms of both the range of courses on offer and the number of students and – a nice coincidence – for the first time in the academy’s 50-year history, reached the milestone of 1,000 registrations this school year.
Naturally, the Zottegem Municipal Academy for Visual Arts will not let this golden jubilee pass unnoticed and on this occasion an exhibition will be organized with visual material from the school’s archives. This exhibition will be festively opened on Sunday 27 November at 3 pm and will then be open to the general public from Tuesday, November 29 to Saturday, January 14, 2023during the opening hours of the academy at Tapstraat 45. In the courtyard of the SABK, ‘De Feesttafel’ will also be set up, an artistic installation of and by the youth studios of the academy.
