An investment of approximately 100 million euros could transform Galaţi into the largest container port in the EU, announced the mayor of the city on the banks of the Danube, Ionuţ Pucheanu, during a conference organized by Ziarul Financiar.
The investment would be made with European funds. Thus, ships of large tonnage could reach Galati and Brăila.
“Ships of up to 15,000 tons could reach Galaţi and Brăila and we could even become the gateway to the EU after this project is completed,” declared Ionuţ Pucheanu, the mayor of Galaţi.
One of the big infrastructure projects in Galati is the development of a multimodal platform in the area of the Galati ports, which will allow large capacity ships to reach this area.
“I think we can talk about one of the most important projects, the three ports in Galati will be transformed into one for a multimodal platform. Galati Port could become the largest container port”, said Ionuţ Pucheanu, during the ZF/Liberty conference.
