The leak of classified documents from the Pentagon is taken very seriously, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said on Tuesday.
„I can’t say much while the Justice Department investigation is ongoing, but we are taking this very seriously.Austin said in his first public remarks about the leak.
„And we will continue to work closely with our exceptional allies and partners, and nothing will ever stop us from keeping America safe.”
Austin added that the Department of Defense will “turn over every stone until we find the source” leaked information documents.
“They were somewhere on the web and where exactly and who had access at that time we don’t know, we just don’t know at this point”he said during a press conference with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and senior Philippine officials.
Austin said the documents they are aware of are dated February 28 and March 1, and that they don’t know if there are “other documents” that have been posted.
“Again,” he said, “we will continue to investigate and try to determine the full scope of the activity.”
Austin said he was first informed of the “unauthorized disclosure” of the documents on April 6 and has been subpoenaing senior leaders daily since then, according to CNN.
