The Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Constantin-Daniel Cadariu, visited Costineşti, Constanţa county, and says that the situation is “worrying”.
“I visited all the seaside resorts; I started from Mangalia and stopped in Constanta. Things are generally looking good from my point of view. At Neptun and Olimp, but also in the two Ephoria, there are ongoing works, but they will be finished by the beginning of the season. On the other hand, in Costineşti, the situation is worrying, especially in terms of the safety of tourists”, said Cadariu.
Immediately after the minister’s visit, the team of the General Directorate of Tourism organized checks in the Costinesti resort. Irregularities identified at the level of accommodation and catering structures, as well as the lack of sanitization of public spaces, were also noted by the delegated inspectors of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT).
In order for the situations to be remedied, the dialogue was initiated, at the headquarters of the ministry, with the representatives of the local public authorities in Costineşti, of the Youth Tourism Office SA (BTT), a company in the portfolio of the Ministry of Family, Youth and Equal Opportunities, which owns most of the lands in the resort, as well as with BTT Perla Costineştiului SA.
“A first series of remedial measures must be implemented before the opening of the summer season! Otherwise, we will have to resort to the withdrawal of the tourist classification, which leads to the cessation of the economic activity of the profile operators in Costineşti. I hope we don’t end up withdrawing the certification of a tourist resort of national interest. For this reason, I want us to make a common front: the ministry, the mayor’s office and BTT, as well as all the institutions with a control role in this case, so that the safety of tourists is guaranteed! In the next period, we will have checks on all economic operators in Costineşti who are classified by us and, where necessary, I reiterate the fact that we will withdraw the right to carry out tourist activities”, declared Minister Constantin-Daniel Cadariu.
Next, MAT will send requests to carry out checks according to the competences, as well as the invitation to form mixed control teams, both to the National Authority for Consumer Protection, the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, the State Construction Inspectorate, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the Institution of the Prefect of Constanța, the Constanța County Public Health Directorate, as well as the National Administration “Romanian Waters”.
According to the law, the summer season in Romania starts on May 1 and ends on September 30 of each year.
“The situation we found in Costineşti represents a black spot on the entire image of the Romanian tourist destination. We have resorts that are developing nicely and that are investing, being examples of good practice, but we cannot pretend that we do not see the ones that do us no honor and that even drag us down”, said Minister Cadariu.
