Thus, from the beginning of the year until now, over 450,000 applications have been registered on the platform for this type of jobs. Almost 37,000 applications for project based jobs were added to them. Both accumulate approximately 15% of all applications related to the period January – April 2023.
„Beyond the applications themselves, we are seeing substantial increased interest in candidate searches for keywords
She believes that the queries that candidates make in the platform also announce an avalanche of applications for part-time or project-based jobs in the coming period.
eJobs data shows that half of the more than 450,000 applications for part-time jobs this year came from candidates aged 18 to 24 who are either not yet earning the salary they want in their main job or want to make a career change and, for a while, want to try something else.
The number of applications drops drastically in the case of candidates who are over 36 years old and who choose, rather, to wait until they find a better paying job than to work in two different places at the same time.
Correlated with the age criterion, another aspect that stands out is related to the career level of those applying for a second job – over 80% of the applications belong to candidates with no previous professional experience and to entry level candidates (with a maximum of two years of experience ). The percentage of those with more than 5 years of seniority is, on the other hand, marginal.
„We also noticed that a quarter of the applications for part-time positions are for remote jobs, so that candidates can ensure that they have flexibility over their own time and that they will not have the pressure of daily commuting from one office to another“, says Roxana Drăghici.
Although the interest of candidates for part-time or project-based work is increasing compared to the first quarter of last year, the number of jobs put on the market by employers is lower by 10% compared to the same reference period.
Most options for those who want to supplement their income through a second, part-time job are in the arts / entertainment field. Followed by retail, services, transport / logistics, food industry and tourism.
„One of the explanations lies, of course, in the fact that the decision to tax part-time jobs at the level of the minimum wage in the economy was taken in the second half of last year, so what we see now is a continuation of the tendency of employers to stay moderate on this topic“, emphasizes Roxana Drăghici.
Approximately 30,000 jobs are currently available on eJobs.ro. Of these, 5,200 are for part-time jobs.
