The message of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, was read at the opening of the “Smart diaspora – diaspora in higher education, science, innovation and entrepreneurship” Conference. The message was presented by Diana-Loreta Păun, presidential adviser at the Department of Public Health.
“These days, here in Timisoara, science and innovation will not take into account borders. This conference has the potential to mobilize the scientific and academic community to create collaborative directions, to lay the foundations of specialist networks or to strengthen existing ones. From the beginning of my first mandate, I have articulated the vision of professional communities in areas of expertise, regardless of field, between Romanians in the country and those abroad, and I am glad that this Conference fulfills this vision at the highest level of competence”. the president of Romania sent.
Klaus Iohannis also spoke about the importance of maintaining ties with the diaspora.
“In an era of heightened digitization, communication patterns and human interaction have fundamentally changed. The transfer of know-how, the initiation and development of collaboration or investment projects, through scientific networks, are facilitated by the new technological tools, which have reshaped the connection and interaction of researchers. Thus, skills and expertise can be utilized quickly and easily, no matter where the person who owns them is. In this favorable context, Romania’s commitment to creating and maintaining ties with the scientific diaspora is crucial, and the institutions of the Romanian state must assume the role of catalyst. The unique perspectives and experiences of the scientific and academic diaspora community, judiciously capitalized, contribute to connecting the Romanian research ecosystem to the regional and global ones. Moreover, intensifying the internationalization efforts of Romanian universities is one of the objectives of the Educated Romania project”, Iohannis said.
Climate change and environmental protection must be the priorities of politicians and researchers, Iohannis also conveyed
“The key to the sustainable development of our country is education. Through the topics addressed, the conference program aligns with my priorities as President of Romania. Limiting climate change and adequately protecting the environment are important challenges at the national and international level. To be able to answer them adequately, everyone’s involvement is needed, and the contribution of Romanian experts from outside the borders is essential. We need your knowledge and capacity for innovation”, said Klaus Iohannis.
