CSM Constanta – Dinamo Bucharest 34-32 (16-14)
The most interesting confrontation in the quarter-finals of the Romanian Men’s Handball Cup was played on Wednesday evening in Constanţa, in the “Simona Amânar” Sports Hall. The hosts provided the surprise of this season in domestic men’s handball, handing the first defeat to the Romanian champions, Dinamo Bucharest.
After the first quarter of an hour, Dinamo had a 4-goal lead (8-12, 9-13), but the “dolphins”, with coach George Buricea in the stands, serving a suspension, came back, especially thanks to the saves of goalkeeper Dan Vasile. With an intermediate score of 7-1, the Constantinians ended the first half with a 2-goal lead (16-14).
The second half was played on the counter, with many score reversals. In the first 15 minutes, the hosts maintained an advantage of one, two goals, Dinamo leading the table only at 18-19.
Xavier Pascual imposed a game with 7 field players, without a goalkeeper, for most of the match, but due to inaccuracies in the offensive, his team received several goals with an empty net.
10 minutes before the end, Pascual’s students led in two more rows (25-26, 26-27), after which they fell into their own trap of the game 7 to 6 and Constanța broke away at 30-27 and even 33 -29, an advantage they managed to manage until the end, obtaining the qualification in the aces box of the competition.
The scorers of the match were Gabriel Ilie, with 7 successes, for CSM Constanța, and Ali Zein, also with 7, for Dinamo. The home goalkeeper Dan Vasile also scored 2 goals.
Also on Wednesday, Minaur Baia Mare beat HC Buzău at home, with a decisive score of 37-27 (20-14), while CSU from Suceava qualified with a clear away victory against CS Universitatea Craiova, score 27-44 (13-25).
The match between AHC Potaisa Turda and CSM Bucharest remains to be played on Thursday.
The four qualified will compete for the trophy on May 13-14, in a location to be announced.
