Jack T., a member of the United States National Guard, is from the state of Massachusetts and is to be arrested on Thursday, military officials said on condition of anonymity.
The man is suspected of having circulated Pentagon documents to an online group where about 20-30 people were registered.
The President of the United States, Joseph Biden, declared himself concerned about the case of the unauthorized publication of classified documents attributed to the American services, stressing that the investigation is ongoing and that there is no immediate risk.
“I’m concerned about these leaks. I’m concerned that something like this happened, but there’s nothing that I know of that would generate immediate consequences,” said Biden, on the occasion of the meeting he had in Dublin with the president of Ireland , Michael Higgins.
Asked about the source that disclosed the classified information, Biden said that the investigation is ongoing. “As you know, there is an extensive investigation underway, by the intelligence community and the Department of Justice. It’s getting closer, but I don’t have an answer for you,” the US president emphasized.
Earlier, sources cited by The Washington Post daily stated that the classified documents were posted on an online group by an employee of a US military base.
