The border authorities from Romania and the Republic of Moldova are implementing coordinated control at the Albiţa Road Border Crossing Point, on the way to enter Romania, starting on Saturday, March 15.
According to the Romanian Border Police, the activity is taking place following the entry into force of the Decree on the promulgation of the Law for the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova regarding coordinated control on the territory of Romania at the state border crossing point Albiţa (Romania) – Leuşeni ( Republic of Moldova) by road, on the way to enter Romania.
The Regulation contains the principles and rules of cooperation for carrying out, on the territory of Romania, the coordinated control of persons, means of transport and goods crossing the state border through the Albița (Romania) — Leuseni (Republic of Moldova) Road Border Crossing Point, in the sense of entry into Romania.
The head of the Romanian Border Police, Police Quaestor Victor-Ştefan Ivaşcu, and his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, Chief Commissioner Rosian Vasiloiu, made, on Thursday, the last checks at the crossing point to ensure that all conditions are met, both operationally as well as logistically to achieve the main goal of the project: simplifying, streamlining and coordinating border traffic control.
“The coordinated control is carried out both by the border police and by the customs authorities of the two countries, it involves the control at the border crossing carried out separately by the control personnel of the state of exit (Republic of Moldova), followed consecutively by the personnel of the state of entry (Romania), carried out on the territory of a single state. The difference compared to the previous way of carrying out the control consists in the fact that on the way out of the Republic of Moldova, at the Leuseni Border Crossing Point, the crossing will be done without control, and the stop for checks will be made on the way of entering Romania, in the Albiţa-road Border Crossing Point, depending on the type of vehicle/priority at the control”, reports the Romanian Border Police on Thursday.
For the international traffic of passenger cars, minibuses and coaches, 5 control arteries are intended, and for goods transport means, another 5 lanes are allocated.
From an operational point of view, the implementation of coordinated control will contribute to the fastest possible processing of flows of people and means of transport.
The border authorities of the two states cooperate permanently to strengthen the state border surveillance system, and the joint patrol actions ensure the operative exchange of information in the field of preventing and combating cross-border crime.
The length of the border between Romania and the Republic of Moldova is approximately 681 km, with six road state border crossing points open to international traffic operational.
In the first quarter of this year, the crossing points on the border with the Republic of Moldova were transited by more than 2 million people, both in the direction of entry and in the direction of exit. Of these, 755,000 people passed through PTF Albiţa. At the same time, more than 660,000 vehicles crossed the Romanian-Moldovan border, of which almost 130,000 were trucks, in both directions. Considering the fact that the border with the Republic of Moldova is an external border of the European Union, in addition to the Border Police, other authorities responsible for carrying out checks on the traffic of goods between the two states participate in the border control.
